New year, new talent: Pets barge into 2016 with a proper Glaswegian kiss...
Introducing Dalfie; a Scottish newcomer who’s no stranger to late night beats thanks to his club-loving father sneaking him into venues in his early teens. Smitten and bitten from the off, he’s spent the last 10 years DJing around his native Glasgow and studying the dark art of stripped back tech dynamics. Craft honed, vibe owned: Dalfie’s ready to ignite his career in earnest... And it begins right here on Pets.
‘Purple Hub’ was inspired by one of the UK’s most legendary and longstanding venues: Sub Club. Triggered one night in the sweaty snug of the club’s consistently packed dancefloor, Dalfie’s driving groove is peppered with an unrelenting hand drum, palpitating heartbeat bass and just the right amount of star-gazing synths. File under timeless: each element is ageless.
‘Marching Powder’ reveals Dalfie’s darker delectation. A sinister sitar line twangs back and forth as a dense web of percussion is weaved before our very ears. A persistent vocal sample provides our marching orders while a bassline bubbles beneath with the right amount of warm, groove-minded counterplay.
In case introducing an exciting new name to the game wasn’t quite enough, Pets have also bagged an impeccable remix of ‘Marching Powder’ from Dorisburg. Splicing and dicing the vocal sample to wrap around industrial strength breakbeats, there’s a molten sense of mechanical funk coded through every fractious element. Complete with a flabby Chicken Lips-style bassline, the timelessness of Dalfie’s productions are echoed throughout.
Artist debuts don’t often come as broad and confident as this. We’re hyped for what Dalfie delivers next.
